Cannon Tri-laminates support Apprenticeships

Cannon Tri-laminates has taken a bold step investing into the local community by offering three full time apprenticeships to local people aged between 16 & 24 years.

The scheme, which is run locally by North Lancs Training Group, allows apprentices to work full time and train with local companies. The scheme allows young people to gain vital qualifications along with essential vocational life skills.

Works Director, Paul Cannon, said “as a responsible employer, it is essential for businesses to give young people the opportunity to experience working in a professional and friendly environment, as well as allowing them to develop skills and gain necessary qualifications whilst training with the Company. Cannon Tri-laminates appoint General Manager

Cannon Tri-laminates Ltd, a leading manufacturer of rubber coated textiles, has today appointed Gary Clements as General Manager to further strengthen the company’s’ position as a leading manufacturer of polymer proofed materials. Gary’s most recent role was Commercial Manager for Dunlop GRG, he brings with him many years’ experience within the rubber fabrication and coated textiles industry. The appointment is made at a time when CTL is expanding its’ manufacturing capacity and re-locating its’ business to a new and larger facility at Haslemere Ind. Estate, near Wigan. According to Duncan Cannon, CTL’s managing director, “Gary’s expertise in business management, product fabrication, customer liaison and sales will take the business to the next level”.

Hi-tech textiles manufacturer Cannon Tri-laminates is moving to a new home to accommodate its expanding workload and workforce.
Cannon will today begin relocating to larger, more modern premises at Haslemere Industrial Estate as its current home in Golborne, near Wigan, is being redeveloped as a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

As part of the relocation deal, Cannon’s £150,000 moving costs are being covered and £30,000 of modifications are being carried out to the new premises to suit the firm’s requirements.

The new site, which will increase production capacity by 25 per cent, will also house a new product development lab.

Among Cannon’s latest innovations is a flame retardant material which is currently being tested by a client for use in containment booms used in controlling oil spills at sea.

Family firm Cannon, which specialises in rubber-coated fabrics such as those used in convertible car hoods and divers’ drysuit, the company was founded in 2009, it has invested over £300,000 in new plant during 2011.

It is planning to open a sales office in America in June to handle growing sales of its products in the States, and also adding three apprentices to its UK workforce increasing it to 17.

Revenues to January 31 were £1.2m, which is predicted to rise to £2m in the current period.

Around 80 per cent of Cannon’s revenues are generated abroad, with key markets including China and Korea.

Owner Duncan Cannon said: “Our relocation to the Haslemere Industrial Estate represents an opportunity to take the business to the next level.

Our business has outgrown its current, outdated premises and we are planning further investment in new equipment, which will significantly increase production capacity.

I am very pleased with the deal that has been negotiated.”

Cannon Tri-laminates Ltd’s Managing Director, Duncan Cannon, will be partitioning for an L1 US visa in the New Year, for the sole purpose of setting up an overseas US Sales Office.
